“The national strategic plan for fighting against AIDS will be a reference tool for all interventions in the fight against the disease,” the minister said when he spoke in Cotonou during celebrations to mark the World AIDS Day.


He said the plan will guarantee access to free anti-retroviral treatment, testing and counselling as well as medical check-up for Beninese nationals living with HIV.

According to a population census conducted in 2012, HIV/AIDS prevalence rate among the Beninese population stood at 1.2 percent. It stood at 1.6 percent in urban zones and 0.9 percent in rural zones.

The same census revealed that prevalence rate among women stood at 1.4 percent while it stood at 1.0 percent among men. Enditem
