According to a recent decision by the country’s Electronic Communications Regulatory Authority, the deficiencies noted should be corrected, especially for voice services.

An audit report by the regulatory authority revealed that MTN and GLO telecommunication networks neither conformed to required specifications, nor to the quality of service expected of a mobile telephone operator, the same source said.

Out of 9 million people with mobile phones in Benin as per June 30, 2015, MTN controls 46.83 percent of subscribers, followed by Moov with 33.16 percent and GLO with 17.91 percent, a study by the Electronic Communications Regulatory Authority revealed.

It will be recalled that on May 24, over seven million Beninese subscribers of the two largest mobile telephone operators in the country, Moov and MTN, went on a 48-hour boycott of the services offered by the operators to demand improvement of their services. Enditem
