A large section of Dantokpa market, one of the most important retailing areas in Benin, was burnt down by the fire which was started by a truck transporting illegal fuel from neighbouring Nigeria.

The truck was said to have some police officers on board, caught fire at 1:00 a.m. (local time) after being hit by another truck in one of the lanes of the market.

Flames lit some cans of petrol, leading to the fire which spread quickly, razing down shops. Enditem
