Kumordzi trained with the Genk squad for the first time in almost a year

Ghanaian international midfielder Bennard Kumordzi is set to make injury return Belgian side KRC Genk after getting involved in full scale training on Wednesday.

The 30-year-old damaged his meniscus during pre-season with Genk and had aggravated the problem on a number on times on his recovery route which truncated his last season last term.

But after missing the start of the current season, the former Panionios midfielder has returned to full scale training and trained with the entire squad on Wednesday and Thursday, leaving manager Peter Maes thrilled about the prospects of having the midfielder back into his squad.

“Kumordzi had a 1 hour and 40 minutes intensive training and this is a big step forward in his rehabilitation process,” assistant manager Peter Balette.

The versatile midfielder, who can play as a central defender, rose to the fore for Genk three seasons ago when he shouldered the club in their Belgian Cup campaign and guiding them to victory in the competition.

Kumordzi has 8 senior cap for Ghana and has scored once in the process but featured for the Ghana U23 side.
