Viasat 1’s Benny Bonsu has resigned from the station, months after joining them as Head of OWN Productions. Miss Bonsu, who was also lead actress and creator of the Bedroom Diaries of a Black Woman series on the station, will be away for five months. An email on Sunday as part of a thank you note to media houses (who supported her to host a delegation from NBA Africa in Accra last week) suggests she will now take up the position of Presenter and Face of the Barclays Premier League Football and Lifestyle Show.
The former Executive Producer and Sports Operations Manager of the 2012 London Olympics, joined VIASAT 1 last year, replacing Ama K. Abebrese, who until September 30, 2012 was managing all OWN Productions. OWN is the production arm of VIASAT 1 Ghana, and responsible for content creation and development.
Prior to becoming Head of OWN, she was Executive Producer for The One Show?, ?Born Starz? and ?This Morning?.
Chief Executive Officer of Viasat1, Charlotte Gustavsson, at the time said: ?When Ama K. Abebrese resigned to fully pursue her acting career I knew that finding a replacement was not going to be easy. At Viasat, we have high production standards. Only 10 minutes into my first conversation with Benny I knew she was the one. We share the same vision and Benny has the right qualities to keep growing the quality, and increasing the creativity, of locally produced shows.?
With over 10 years experience in mainstream journalism, Bonsu started off as a journalist for MVP24/7, an online magazine entertainment strand.
She?s interviewed some of the world?s leading celebrities such as Tony Parker, Dwayne Wade, Demar DeRozan, Abou Diaby, Kevin Prince-Boateng, Andre Arshavin, Darren Bent, Jermaine Defoe, Kolo Toure, John Pantsil, Derek Safo, David Lammy, Gordon Brown and Tony Blair.
She is founder of iPresent Academy, an institution that trains and develops up and coming TV presenters. Miss Bonsu is a graduate of Brunel University.
