Abdulai Abanga, Member of Parliament for Binduri, has accused the National Democratic Congress (NDC) of orchestrating an attack on a branded constituency vehicle belonging to the region’s New Patriotic Party (NPP).
The incident occurred when three masked individuals allegedly poured petrol on the MP’s campaign vehicle and set it ablaze by firing shots into it on Monday.
MP Abdulai Abanga, speaking to Citi News, described the attack as politically motivated, citing ongoing threats from political opponents.
“It’s politically motivated because I took nothing valuable from the car. For some time now, we have been receiving threats from our political opponents. So, this is just the manifestation of the threats they have been issuing,” Abdulai Abanga stated.
He further alleged that the NDC leadership in the constituency had been openly issuing threats and exerting influence during voter registration exercises, suggesting an orchestrated effort to undermine support for the NPP.
In response, Abdallah Salifu, the NDC’s Upper East Regional Communications Director, refuted these allegations and called for a thorough investigation into the incident.
“We condemn whatever happened, and we commiserate with the family of the NPP constituency chairman and members of NPP. But we want to state categorically that we, the NDC members in Binduri constituency, have no hand whatsoever in the burning of the vehicle,” Abdallah Salifu clarified in an interview with Citi News.
The incident underscores heightened political tensions in the Binduri constituency ahead of upcoming elections, prompting calls for calm and impartial investigations.
