Birim Central NCCE highlights security as pivotal to human survival

The Birim Central Municipal Director for National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE), Mrs Rejoice Biscoff, has called for adequate security protection to guarantee perpetual survival of citizens irrespective of their political and religious affiliations.

He said Ghana was faced with an imminent security threat, risk and challenges that, if care was not taken in tackling the situation, modest gains of the nation would be thrown overboard.

Mrs Biscoff was addressing members of the Inter-Party Dialogue Committee at Akim Oda on: “Preventing electoral violence and providing security to the Northern border regions of Ghana (NORPREVSEC) project.”

NORPREVSEC project is supported by the European Union and focuses on border regions, hotspots communities and some coastal areas.

The Municipal NCCE Director said the project aimed at consolidating and solidifying existing fragmented policies on security into an integrated framework for easy implementation.

Mr Alex Sackey, Eastern Regional Director of NCCE, urged all and sundry, to be law-abiding and ensure peace and tranquility prevailed in various communities.

Inspector George Oteng Appau, Akim Oda Municipal Police Office, took the committee members through the Public Order Act 1994 (Act 491), urging them to respect notification to Police of special events and control of routes and crowds.

The Act also spells out the responsibilities of event organisers and other persons, the power to impose a curfew, and the power of arrest.

He explained that adherence to the Public Order Act would reduce causing harm, and loss of property and lives during the organisation of public events.

The Inter-Party Dialogue Committee had representatives from the Birim Central Municipal Assembly, Muslim Council, Christian council, Traditional authorities, and youth groups, National Democratic Congress, New Patriotic Party, and the Ghana Union Movement.
