Black Meteors Break Ghanaian Hearts

… With Slim Chance To Qualify To Tokyo 2020

The national Olympic Football team, the Black Meteors failed to beat host nation, Egypt in their second group game at the Afcon U23 final qualification tournament in the large Cairo International Stadium.

The Ghanaians took the lead on two occasions in the match with an early goal through skipper Yaw Yaboah which was equalized, then striker Samuel Obeng rounded the Egyptian goalkeeper to put the Meteors ahead, 2-1.

But they could not match the pace of the Young Pharaohs in the second half as they outrun and outplay, as well as outshine the Meteors who resorted to defending instead of holding the midfield and attack.

The game ended 3-2 in favour of Egypt.

The Egyptian home fans got what they wanted and went home really satisfied, however in Ghana, the supporters of the Black Meteors shifted the blame on coach Ibrahim Tanko and his technical men, describing them as bankrupt and clueless on the night.

Ghana who drew their first match against Cameroun have to beat Mali at all cost and if Egypt beats Cameroun, then they have a chance of moving on to the next round of the competition.

But the young Eagles of Mali will not come in cheap and easy as they also have to get some points home, and not waste the opportunity of making it to the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games.
“We played a great game but lost in the end, this is football. I congratulate Egypt on qualifying. We will play to win against Mali and hope for a favorable result from Egypt match against Cameroon.” said coach Tanko of Ghana.
