Black Meteors head Coach Ibrahim Tanko is not giving up on his side’s chances of qualifying to the semifinals of the U23 AFCON ahead of their last group game against Mali.

Ghana’s 2020 Olympics hopes hang by a thread after their opening day draw with Cameroon and defeat to Egypt in their second group game on Monday.

The Meteors will be gunning for a win against Mali on Thursday and hope the Young Pharaohs do them a favour by beating the Indomitable Lions in the other game which is scheduled to be played simultaneously.

Speaking to the media ahead of the game, Tanko insisted his side still have a chance but noted the quality of opposition the Mali team pose.

“We still have a chance to qualify to the next stage , though Mali has no points , but in football we deal with fair play so I don’t think Mali will be a mere opponent.

“Mali will not be happy to exit without a point so the game will be very tough .

“It’s very unfortunate we lost against Egypt in the last minute, it was a very good performance especially in first half.”

Tanko also insisted they are only concentrating on their game and not what will happen between Egypt and Cameroon.

“We only have to concentrate on our game, the chance is not only with us to grab, but we can only concentrate on our game” He added.
