Black Stars Have The Easiest Task To Qualify To 2014 World Cup Play-offs

Ghana have the easiest task of progressing to the final qualifying round of the 2014 Fifa World Cup qualifiers if they avoid defeat against Zambia on Friday.

The Black Stars top the Group D table with 12 points; one more than the Chipolopolo who beat their hosts twice in 2012.

But both sides go into the match at the Baba Yara Stadium with injuries concerns.

Ghana captain Asamoah Gyan could not complete a full training session on Tuesday due to a thigh injury.

Goalkeeper Adam Larsen Kwarasey, captain of Norwegian top-flight side Stromsgodset, pulled out of the Ghana squad due to a groin injury.

But the return of trio Andre Ayew, Kevin-Prince Boateng and Michael Essien should balance the books for the 2010 World Cup quarterfinalists.

New Schalke signing Boateng will be playing his first match for the Black Stars since announcing his retirement in November 2011.

Ayew stepped down from the Black Stars six months ago after he was dropped from the squad

Essien is making a return after asking to be excused from international football following career-threatening injuries.

He has made himself available to play despite losing his dad on Sunday.

Zambia have been denied the services of Collins Mbesuna and Jacob Mulenga who suffered injuries for their respective clubs Orlando Pirates and FC Utrecht.

Mulenga scored three goals in the World Cup qualifiers against Lesotho and Sudan in June.

Head coach Herve Renard must now adopt a plan B which will deny Ghana the qualification berth.

Striker Emmanuel Mayuka, who has moved on loan to French side FC Sochaux, joined the Chipolopolo on Tuesday and trained with the squad.

The Chipolopolo are scheduled to leave for Kumasi on Wednesday on a chartered flight.
