The Upper East Regional Directorate of the National Health Insurance (NHIS) Scheme in collaboration with the Ghana Health Service (GHS) at the weekend, organized a blood donation exercise at the Bolgatanga Polytechnic.
The exercise which was heavily patronized by students, lecturers of the Polytechnic and their families as well as the Polytechnic community was also used to register and renew the community members NHI cards.
Speaking at the programme, the Regional Director of the Scheme, Mr. Sebastian Alagpulinsa , explained that the blood donation exercise formed part of the Scheme’s Corporate Social Responsibility and was conducted annually throughout the ten regions in the country.
He stated that the donation of the blood was intended to stock the blood bank of the Bolgatanga Regional hospital to help patients who would be in need of blood.
Mr Alagpulinsa also explained that his outfit decided to use the occasion to register and renew the NHI cards of the community members because most of the beneficiaries found it difficult in going to the centres to register and renew their membership cards.
Ms Abigail Amoak-Afoko, the Assistant Regional Public Relations Officer, who expressed happiness about the high turnouts, commended the donors for their service to humanity.
The Regional Head of Blood Mobilization of the GHS, Ms Ajaratu Issah, who lauded the efforts of the NHIS for championing the activity, appealed to other corporate bodies and Non-Governmental Organization to join the mobilization efforts of the blood donation exercise.
