British Prime Minister Boris Johnson is due to resign today as Tory leader.

Meanwhile, he will continue serving as Prime Minister until the autumn.

This was reported by a BBC televised broadcast.

A leadership contest is to take place between now and the autumn when Mr. Johnson is due to step down.

Several ministers including UK’s health secretary have already resigned, asking Mr. Johnson to go.

New Education Secretary Michelle Donelan and Northern Ireland Secretary Brandon Lewis have resigned. Ministers Helen Whately, Damian Hinds, George Freeman, Guy Opperman, Chris Philp, and James Cartlidge have also resigned.

Mr Johnson has been defied calls to step down, pointing to his 2019 election win.

The Prime Minister has been asked to resign over his handling of sexual misconduct allegations against a Conservative Member of Parliament (MP).

Last Thursday Noa Hoffman, a 24-year-old just four days into her job as a political reporter for the Sun newspaper, broke the news that a Conservative MP had resigned from his role as a party whip following a druken evening at the Carlton private members club.

In his resignation letter, Chris Pincher informed Mr. Johnson that  he “drank far too much” and “embarrassed myself and other people”.
