Botswana’s law enforcement agencies on Wednesday embarked on an operation to curb illegal waste dumping in the capital Gaborone and adjacent villages.
This intention has come as a result of observations on the increasing incidence of illegal dumping of general waste, illegal dumping of hazardous waste especially clinical and sewage, and business operation of waste carriers with expired or without licenses, said Daniel Moatshe, spokesperson of Ministry of Environment, Natural Resources Conservation and Tourism.
Moatshe said the Department of Waste Management and Pollution Control in collaboration with the Botswana police and local authorities will be conducting the law enforcement operation.
He bemoaned that illegal waste dumping pollutes, rendering the environment a threat to public and animal health.
Most of urban areas in Botswana are battling plastic pollution and its negative effects. Enditem
