Botswana on Monday announced plans to participate in the forthcoming Expo 2020 Dubai in the United Arab Emirates.
The country’s investment promotion arm Botswana Investment and Trade Centre (BITC) on Monday said Expo 2020 will be a great opportunity for Botswana to join the world and experience a six-month celebration of creativity, innovation, humanity and world cultures.
The Expo 2020 Dubai is slated 20th October 2020 to 10th April 2021 and will be hosted under the theme “Connecting Minds, Creating the Future”.
“It will be a time to create and renew connections that will strengthen and deepen through 2020 and beyond,” said Kutlo Moagi, Director, Corporate Communication at BITC in the capital Gaborone.
She said Expo 2020 Dubai serves to motivate nations to carry that innovative spirit and pick valuable lessons for the advancement of Botswana.
“Botswana participation is anchored on the multi-sectoral approach that Botswana drives to diversity the economy,” said Moagi.
The event anticipates over 180 countries, corporations, NGOs and educational institutions and BITC believes intends leverage the opportunity to position Botswana favorably to the international audience.
“It provides Botswana an opportunity to sell her value proposition and position, as a gateway into Africa for investment in greenfield projects and provides presence with the rest of the world in one location and creates country awareness through branding and promotion, as a place to visit,” Moagi said.
Meanwhile Botswana participated for the first time at the Shanghai 2010 World Expo in China. Enditem
