A total of 43,077 passengers passed through Botswana airports in the fourth quarter of 2020, a latest report by Botswana’s statistical agency Statistics Botswana, showed.
This was a marked increase when compared to the 14,699 registered in the previous quarter, it has been noted.
Since international travel restrictions still exist in many countries to curb the transmission of the deadly COVID-19, some 72.8 percent of the 43, 077 passengers were domestic movements, Statistics Botswana said.
“International movements constituted 27.2 percent of the total. Both international and domestic movements increased by more than 100 percent when compared to the previous quarter,” the report indicated.
According to Statistics Botswana, most of the passenger movements recorded during the quarter under review were scheduled, accounting for 80.6 percent, while non-scheduled ones constituted 16.9 percent. Private and scenic movements constituted 0.9 and 1.6 percent respectively.
Meanwhile, Sir Seretse Khama International Airport (SSKIA), which is situated in Gaborone, Botswana’s capital city, received more passengers in this quarter, with 47.6 percent of the total.
An estimated 51.0 percent of the passengers who passed through SSKIA were international passengers while 49.0 percent were domestic passengers. Enditem
