John Boye and team-mate celebrates

Ghana defender John Boye scored for Stade Rennes in their 3-1 win over ten-man Valenciennes in the quarter-final of the Coupe de France on Wednesday night.

It was the Ghana defender’s first goal for Rennes since joining them from Kpando Heart of Lions in 2008.

The 24-year-old Frederic Antonetti’s side the lead in the 53rd minute after Malian international Mamadou Samassa had cancelled out Jonathan Pitroipa’s 12th minute opener.

Boye connected well with a Jonathan Pitroipa pass to shoot Rennes 2-1 up.

Moroccan international Youssouf Hadji put the game beyond Valenciennes with a fine finish in the 87th minute.

The victory has enjoyed qualification to the semi-finals of the competition.
