BRABUS, the German automotive refinement specialist, has unveiled the XL 800, a high-performance off-road supercar based on the Mercedes-AMG G 63.
Designed to dominate both rugged terrain and urban landscapes, the vehicle combines advanced engineering with bespoke luxury, targeting enthusiasts seeking unparalleled capability and exclusivity.
At the core of the XL 800 is a modified twin-turbo V8 engine producing 588 kW (800 hp) and 1,000 Nm of torque, enabling acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) in 4.6 seconds. The top speed is electronically limited to 210 km/h (130 mph) due to its off-road tire configuration. Key to its off-road prowess are custom portal axles, which provide a ground clearance of 47 cm (18.5 inches), along with a reinforced suspension system and 22-inch BRABUS Monoblock Z/HD forged wheels wrapped in 325/55 R22 tires.
The vehicle’s exterior features a WIDESTAR carbon-fiber widebody kit, including flared fenders, a redesigned front fascia with integrated winch capabilities, and a carbon-fiber brush guard. Aerodynamic enhancements such as a roof spoiler and exposed-structure carbon accents emphasize its aggressive stance. Functional elements like retractable side steps and 90-degree rear door hinges improve accessibility despite the elevated ride height.
Inside, the BRABUS MASTERPIECE interior offers slate-gray precision-quilted leather upholstery, Dinamica headliners, and carbon-fiber trim. Customizable ambient lighting, perforated seating with advanced climate control, and an overhead console displaying real-time vehicle data cater to both luxury and practicality. The cabin also integrates paddle shifters and a BRABUS Ride Control system, adjustable via the Mercedes G-Class’s native interface.
Priced at €630,767 (excluding VAT), the XL 800 is built to order, reflecting BRABUS’s focus on bespoke automotive solutions. However, its fuel efficiency metrics 20.1 liters per 100 km (11.7 mpg) and CO2 emissions of 456 g/km highlight the environmental trade-offs inherent in high-performance vehicles.
The launch underscores a growing demand for ultra-luxury off-road vehicles that blend extreme capability with opulent design. While such models cater to niche markets, they also spark discussions about sustainability in the high-performance automotive sector. BRABUS’s emphasis on customization and cutting-edge engineering positions the XL 800 as a benchmark for competitors, though its appeal remains tethered to a clientele prioritizing power and exclusivity over ecological considerations.
As automakers navigate tightening emissions regulations, the XL 800 exemplifies the tension between innovation in performance and the industry’s broader environmental responsibilities. For now, BRABUS’s latest creation stands as a testament to engineering ambition, redefining the boundaries of what an off-road supercar can achieve.
