They said the situation where they have been holding classes in a shed as not only unhelpful for effective academic work but “punishing”.

Emmanuella Ankra and Emmanuel Darkwa, who acted as their spokespersons, told the Ghana News Agency (GNA) that, “the school is forced to close anytime it threatened to rain”.

The heat during greater part of the day had been unimaginable – simply unbearable, they added.

They further stated that since the shed “has not been walled and without doors”, goats and sheep often invade the classrooms after the contact hours, and that, the overpowering stench from the excrement left behind by these animals was another huge discomfort for them and their teachers.

Mr. Kofi Aboagye Agyeman, the head teacher, shared the concerns of the students and said appeals made to both the Municipal Education Directorate and the assembly had not received any positive response.

“The authorities keep promising to tackle the problem but only God knows when that is going to happen.”

He also complained about the bad attitude of some people in the community who had turned the school compound into a waste disposal site.
