The Chinese proposed Belt and Roads Initiative (BRI) offers more opportunities for partnership between Ghana and China, the Ghanaian ambassador to China, Edward Boateng, has said.

Speaking to Xinhua in an exclusive interview, Boateng said Ghana would take advantage of these opportunities under the BRI to deepen Ghana’s economic relations with China for mutual benefits.

“Ghana is a signatory to the BRI, and it opens the opportunity for us to do more trading and to establish more economic partnerships with China at all levels,” the ambassador said.

He added that BRI would strengthen the people-to-people exchange between Ghana and China, and promote manufacturing and educational exchanges between the two countries, given that “BRI is one of the several bilateral and multilateral opportunities that we can take advantage of”.

The Ghana Entrepreneurs Foundation named the ambassador, who is a former senior staff of Cable News Network and founder of some media outlets in Ghana over the weekend, as Ghana’s best ambassador in 2019, for his efforts in deepening trade and investment relations between Ghana and China.

Boateng said Ghana’s embassy in China was working hard to help Ghanaian exporters and manufacturers to export their products such as chocolates and other agro-based products to the Chinese market.

The organizers of the awards also named Ghana embassy in China over the weekend the country’s best foreign mission in 2019 as the value of Ghana-China bilateral trade rose sharply in recent years.

“China has become one of Ghana’s major trading partners,” said Boateng, adding Ghana eyes exporting more agricultural products to China in the near future, and close the trade deficit with China. Enditem
