British stocks rose Thursday, with the benchmark FTSE 100 Index up by 0.97 percent, or 55.98 points, to close at 5,826.61 points.

Taylor Wimpey, a UK-based housebuilding company, soared 9.40 percent, the top gainer of the blue chips. Barratt Development and Persimmon increased by 8.70 percent and 8.37 percent, respectively.

Legal & General Group, a multinational financial services company, was the worst performer in the blue chips, with its shares losing 4.60 percent. J Sainsbury, a UK-based chain of supermarkets, dropped 2.95 percent. AVEVA Group, a multinational information technology company, fell 2.59 percent. Enditem
