Bronkong, a fast developing community in the Afigya –Kwabre District, has appealed to the government to move quickly to fix a damaged bridge to allow for free movement of people and goods from the area.
Safety concerns had stopped drivers from using the bridge built over the Nkadan River for the past three years.
This has brought huge discomfort not only to the people in the town and the adjoining communities of Pankrono, Besease and Agyakobuoho.
Mr. Philip Sarkodie Addo, the assembly member, who made the appeal through the Ghana News Agency (GNA) said the only way to cross the river now was to wade through it.
That, he indicated, was dangerous – more frightening, and warned that, they could be an accident.
He said what made the situation, even more troubling was that some school children had to cross the river to school.
They are forced to stay out of school any time it rained for fear of being carried away.
Mr. Sarkodie-Addo said it was also nightmarish for market women and other traders in the area to transport their goods to the marketing centres.
“We should not wait for disaster to strike, the time to act is now”, he added.
