Dr. Bryan Acheampong has stepped forward not only with a generous GH¢300,000 donation to fire victims in Kumasi but also with a bold vision to transform Ghana’s markets into safer, modern trading spaces.

During visits to the fire-ravaged Adum and Kantamanto markets, Dr. Acheampong disbursed GH¢300,000 offering critical relief to devastated traders.

But beyond immediate support, he delivered a call to action, urging a comprehensive overhaul of the country’s market infrastructure.

“If given the mandate, I will lead efforts to rebuild the Adum Market into a state-of-the-art trading centre safe, modern, and resilient,” he declared.

His remarks highlighted the urgent need to address the chronic issue of market fires, which continue to threaten the livelihoods of thousands of Ghanaian traders.

Dr. Acheampong’s intervention has sparked renewed hope and drawn widespread commendation from victims and market leaders, who see in him not only a benefactor but a potential reformer committed to long-term solutions.

The donation and redevelopment pledge have reignited public discourse on fire safety, urban planning, and the role of leadership in disaster response and recovery.

Bryan Acheampong, who is also the Member of Parliament for Abetifi, pledged to fully fund the reconstruction of the Adum BlueLight section of Kumasi’s Central Business District, which was recently destroyed by fire—pending approval from the Asantehene and city authorities.

The former Food and Agriculture Minister said he will consult with the Asantehene, the Ashanti Regional Minister, and other local authorities to seek approval for the project.

“Coming here today, you will see that they have started building, but the structures are very weak, yet they are supporting it with block work. But these are not stable. I want to engage the Otumfuo, who is out of the country, and if he permits, also the assembly permits, we want to rebuild this structure for them in 12 months.

“We will put in a very strong infrastructure, and then we will clean the front, put up some stores so that the traders here can have some normalcy to their lives.”
