The alliance of presidential majority parties (APMP) in Burkina Faso on Thursday called on the youth to join the army for the fight against the escalating terrorism facing the country.
APMP made the appeal during press conference on Thursday in the capital Ouagadougou, as a series of deadly terrorist attacks have plunged the country into mourning in the last few days.
“APMP reiterates its call on the populations, especially the youth to enlist massively in the army for the defense of the fatherland, in accordance with legal and regulatory provisions to be taken to this effect,” the leader of Union for Rebirth-Sankarist party, APMP’s member-party, Benewende Stanislas Sankara said during the conference.
On November 7, Burkina Faso’s president addressed the nation after at least 38 people were killed and dozens injured in an ambush the day before.
“I have ordered volunteer recruitment for the defense in threatened zones”, President Roch Marc Christian Kabore announced in the address.
Since 2015, terrorist attacks have claimed the lives of over 500 people including 200 of armed forces soldiers and displaced thousands of others in the West African country. Enditem
