Burundi’s president calls for unity to defeat enemies

Burundian President Pierre Nkurunziza on Wednesday called on the east African country's citizens to be more united to defeat enemies during a prayer breakfast.

The prayer breakfast brought together all the country’s senior authorities, leaders of political parties, representative of civil society organizations and religious organizations as well as diplomats accredited to Burundi and aimed at praying for Burundi.

“This prayer breakfast is aimed at fighting against an enemy that will come from outside. To be able to defeat our enemies, we have to abide by the legacy of Burundi’s Independence Hero Prince Louis Rwagasore who promoted unity. Unity is at the origin for cohesion and development,” said Nkurunziza.

Nkurunziza invited Burundian citizens to avoid “false and divisive” messages propagated by social media and some false information according to which a “genocide” is looming in Burundi.

The prayer breakfast was organized by the Burundian parliament. Enditem
