Zambia’s business community on Tuesday welcomed the launch of the Jilin Chamber of Commerce in the country, saying this will enhance trade with China.
On Monday, enterprises from China’s Jilin province launched the chamber aimed at promoting trade and investment between the province and the southern African nation.
Michael Nyirenda, the president of the Zambia Association of Chambers of Commerce and Industry (ZACCI) said the launch of the Jilin Chamber was welcome as it signifies the growing relations between the two countries.
While appreciating the bilateral relations between the two countries at a political level, he said the launch of the chamber was a sure sign that the relation was trickling down to industries and people level.
“For us this should be the practical way rather than the political and government level. We should actually translate this relation to people level and this is what this launch entails,” he told Xinhua in an interview.
The launch of the chamber, he said, should ensure that there was more collaboration and partnership between the enterprises in Jilin and Zambia for mutual benefit.
He further hoped that the launch of the chamber will culminate into more manufacturing companies from Jilin province investing in value addition projects in Zambia so that the country could also start exporting finished products to China.
Figures show there are currently more than 200 Chinese citizens from Jilin province, with more than 40 enterprises engaged in various economies of the southern African nation. Enditem
