The National Communication Authority (NCA) has sourced the expertise of leading business leaders to impart their knowledge and experiences to 2017/2018 batch of graduates doing their national service at the Authority at a seminar in Accra.

A statement issued by the NCA and copied to the Ghana News Agency said the training, which began in September with the launch by Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, has seen the National Service Personnel being taken through training on the Authority’s core mandate as well as other soft skills to prepare them for corporate life.

Speakers at the seminar included Lieutenant General O.B. Akwa, the Chief of Defence Staff, Dr George Akuffo Dampare, Director General of Operations, Ghana Police Service, Ms Yolanda Cuba, the Chief Executive Officer of Vodafone Ghana, Mrs Lucy Quist, immediate past CEO of Airtel Ghana and Mr Franklin Cudjoe, CEO of Imani Centre for Policy and Education.

Mr Joe Anokye, the Acting Director General of the NCA, said management found it prudent to ensure that the service personnel, who would for the period of their National Service be considered as staff of the Authority, were up to standard and understood the dynamics of the mandate of the NCA.

“This resulted in the detailed training programme we set out for the NSP, and this Day with Leaders Programme was conceptualised to motivate the personnel as they start work with us and to give them nuggets of wisdom that will be useful to them in their career and world of work,” he said.

They were taken through topics spanning loyalty to one’s work, finding a purpose in one’s life, and success in the work place.

Lt. General Obed Akwa, Chief of Defence Staff, encouraged the young professionals to be loyal in the exercise of their duties.

Mrs Quist, who has been motivating young women, especially through her STEM Initiative, reminded the young ones that “Success is a system and not a single event".

She pointed out the need for the NSPs to plan their actions and work towards being successful in their career or whatever endeavour they found themselves.

Dr Akuffo Dampare reminded the personnel of the need to develop their knowledge and spiritual well-being without sacrificing one for the other.

Mr Cudjoe emphasised the need for the personnel to take reading very seriously as it is a key way to attain knowledge.

He observed that most youth seemed to have departed from studying and encouraged them to use social media positively by sharing knowledge-based information in addition to the jokes and light-hearted materials.

He gave examples of celebrated Ghanaian entrepreneurs like J.K. Siaw and the late Esther Ocloo who were able to take advantage of the local opportunities to create thriving businesses.

The Service personnel, who would be sent to the various regions to assist in Consumer Outreach and other activities of the NCA, expressed their gratitude for the training.
