South Africa’s political and civil organizations continue to make calls on their government to expel the Israel ambassador from the country.
This comes after Israel soldiers shot over 60 Palestinians dead leaving 2000 injured. The South African government then recalled its ambassador in Israel Sisa Ngombane. The African National Congress youth league (ANCYL) on Wednesday called on their government to expel the Israel ambassador from the country.
Mlondi Mkhize, ANCYL national spokesperson said, “The ANCYL demands that Israel’s ambassador to South Africa should be expelled from our country and the embassy status be downgraded with immediate effect. We call on the youth of South Africa to stand in solidarity with their Palestinian counterpart, and demand that ANC-led government cuts all diplomatic ties with the murderous Apartheid Israel regime.”
The ANCYL accused Israel and their backers, the United States, for the deadly attack on the Palestinian. They also called on the government to also take some more “radical” stance against Israel.
A South African civil society Ahmed Kathrada Foundation also shared similar sentiments. The Ahmed Kathrada Foundation’s executive director, Neeshan Balton said, “We call for our government to expel the Israeli ambassador in South Africa, downgrade the Israeli Embassy to a liaison office and to apply state level sanctions against Israel.”
The national union of metal workers of South Africa (Numsa) and the country’s opposition political party Economic Freedom Fighters also called for the Israel ambassador to be expelled. Enditem
