Cameroonian authorities said on Wednesday that six government officials had been seized in the latest kidnapping in its volatile English-speaking region of Southwest.
Security forces were trying to track the route the kidnappers had taken with the officials, who were abducted in the remote village of Misore-Balue of the region, security sources told Xinhua.
The hostages, who are all senior government officials of the Ndian division of the region, were on an official mission to the village when gunmen raided the locality and took them away, Lawrence Forwang, Prefect of Ndian division of the region told local reporters.
“(The kidnappers are) secessionist terrorists,” Forwang said, referring to armed separatist fighters known to be operating in the locality.
The central African nation has been experiencing an armed separatist conflict in its two English-speaking regions of Northwest and Southwest since 2017. Enditem
