Cameroon is working to establish a reference center for the production of mushroom seedlings, a move expected to enhance production and employment in the Central African nation, a senior official said Tuesday.
“Mushroom is very important for diet. Mushroom is rich in protein and have zero cholesterol. It is a huge source of employment for youth and women,” Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Gabriel Mbairobe told reporters in the capital of Yaounde during an event aimed at exploring ways to increase crop production.
“That is why we think that it is important to make available the seedlings and to have a standard production of mushrooms. That is why we are thinking of a center of excellence for the production of mushroom seedlings,” he added.
Officials have expressed their anticipation of working with China to ensure the success of the project, which is scheduled to commence next year.
