Hugo Broos, head coach of the Cameroonian national team, the Indomitable Lions, has disclosed that, his players were better conditioned and physically better than the Egyptians, hence the 2-1 victory over the North Africans.
“We won the cup, because we were the better side. Our level of fitness was superior to that of our opponents and this was exhibited in the second half.
“We played with a lot of strength and did all the running, because we were much fitter than them. I am not surprised their coach conceded that, we were stronger than them.” Coach Broos said this at a post match press conference.
Coach Broos, led a relatively inexperienced side of Cameroon to win their fifth trophy in the Africa Cup of Nations.
The Belgian said, his decision to introduce Vincent Aboubacar also contributed immensely to his victory, saying his presence brought a lot of pressure on the North Africans.
“In the first half I noticed we committed a lot errors in the midfield. I tried to change it during the game, but it was not possible.
“In the second half I managed to correct those mistakes and changed a lot of things in the team and this worked for us and gave us the win we were searching for.” Coach Broos.
The coach said, his team played as one unit and were motivated to die for the nation.
He said “I worked with a group of 23 players who are also friends and this spirit of unity is what has paid off in the competition.
“In my last 20 years as a coach I have never seen a team like this before. They are 23 friends who have nothing against each other, played for each other and the result is there for all of us to se.” coach Broos stated.
