Cameroonian army foils terrorist attack in northern region

Cameroonian army said Thursday it had foiled a terrorist attack in Waza, a locality in the country's Far North region, and arrested three suspected suicide bombers.


The arrests were made at around mid-day by the Rapid Intervention Brigade, an elite unit of the Cameroonian army that is specialized in the fight against organized crime and maritime piracy as well as the fight against terrorist groups such as Boko Haram.


A military source told Xinhua preliminary investigations had indicated that the three Nigerian suicide bombers were planning attacks in this Cameroonian town.

Besides the upsurge of armed attacks in recent weeks, Boko Haram has been increasingly using the mode of suicide attacks in Cameroon.

Since July, over 100 people, mostly civilians, have been killed in 15 different suicide attacks in Far North Cameroon.

Since then, Cameroonian security forces have reinforced surveillance measures across the northern region to prevent such attacks. Enditem
