On Monday September 24, 2012, the UK Border Force seized the biggest haul of cannabis valued at ?4.3 million flown into that country from Ghana. The airline that carried the drugs is said to be Virgin Atlantic.

A source who asked not to be named told ghanabusinessnews.com that the drugs weighing around 1.5 tonnes, were found in three separate freight containers filled with fresh fruit and vegetables were carried on a Virgin Atlantic freight flight. This was confirmed by another source at the Kotoka International Airport in Accra.

But when ghanabusinessnews.com contacted Virgin Atlantic officials in Accra, they declined comment. One official simply said ?I don?t know anything about that.?

Meanwhile, on Tuesday September 25, UK Border authorities announced the seizure of cocaine, also flown in from Ghana, weighing about 7.5 kilos. The officials in a statement said the?consignment had come on the same service from Accra.?
