The Serie A newcomers played a faster second half, but only managed to pull one back when Kevin Lasagna produced a similar break and set up the flick of substitute Matteo Mancosu on 50 minutes.

“I think we won a great game against a good Carpi. We played better in the first half, but I am happy to be in the semi-finals,” Colombian striker Bacca said.

“Winning the cup is one of our goals. The team is improving and I think we have good chances to lift the cup.”

Milan are to play a two-leg semi-final against the winner between lower-division sides Spezia and Alessandria, which is set for Monday.

The other quarter-finals Napoli v Inter Milan and Lazio v Juventus are to be played the following Tuesday and Wednesday, respectively.
