The Ghana National Catholic Youth Council on Saturday unveiled its official Logo for the 2018 World Youth Day (WYD) celebration in Accra.
Mr Charles Mark Odoi, the Accra Archdiocesan Youth Chairman, and Chairman of the 2018 Ghana World Youth Day, at a press conference to launch the Logo, said the Day would start from July 27 to August 5, 2018.
He said the WYD would be divided into two parts; the Missionary Days and the main WYD, which would be held on the theme: “Do Not Be Afraid Mary for You Have Found Favour with God.’’
Mr Odoi said the Missionary Days were periods when all the pilgrims from the other 19 archdiocesan and dioceses would come to the Accra Archdiocese and be hosted by the various parishes.
He said the Missionary Days were to enable pilgrims from other regions to learn the way of life and culture of the people of Accra, which would commence from July 27 to August 1, 2018.
Mr Odoi said on August 1, 2018 all the pilgrims were supposed to converge at the University of Ghana, where they would be accommodated and officially welcomed by Most Rev. Charles Gabriel Palmer-Buckle, the Archbishop of Accra.
On August 2, there would be an opening ceremony followed by a float through the principal streets of Madina and a movie night.
Mr Odoi said on August 3, there would be catechesis in the morning, which would be led by the various archbishops and bishops in the various halls.
Other activities for the programme are health walk by pilgrims to the Independence Square on August 4, and a closing mass on August 5.
Mr Odoi, however, urged the parishioners in the Archdiocese of Accra to be ready to make their homes available during the Missionary Days and host the pilgrims “with the love Christ showed us.”
