The College of Education Teachers Association of Ghana (CETAG) has agreed to suspend its strike, effective tomorrow, following a resolution reached with the government.
Under the agreement, the government has made a firm commitment to paying CETAG members’ salaries for July and August by the end of this month, demonstrating their dedication to resolving the issue.
CETAG’s seven-week and even-week strikes were driven by demands for a comprehensive review of their conditions of service.
A vital issue for CETAG, and one that has been acknowledged in the agreement, was the upgrade of colleges of education to university status. This is a significant step towards recognizing the importance of these institutions.
Further details on the agreement, including the specific terms and conditions, will be provided within the next [week].
