Nana Kwame Bediako, also known as Cheddar and leader of the New Force party, has endorsed the GH₵100,000 presidential filing fee set by the Electoral Commission of Ghana, stating that anyone aspiring to lead the country should be capable of meeting this financial requirement.
Speaking to journalists shortly after receiving the code to access presidential nomination forms, Bediako acknowledged the fee’s expense but emphasized its importance for serious contenders.
“Anyone seeking to take up such an office should do whatever he can to pay the money,” Bediako remarked, defending the Commission’s decision despite public criticism.
Bediako, visibly pleased with securing his nomination forms within 24 hours of the fee announcement, expressed readiness to engage in the electoral process.
He noted that politics in Ghana has historically been expensive and suggested efforts to make it more affordable.
In response to scepticism about his party’s potential, particularly in the Ashanti Region, a ruling party stronghold, Bediako dismissed negative projections, asserting confidence in his campaign’s viability.
“The figures can be 1, 5, or any number. So long as it’s not zero, we can make headway,” he asserted, hinting at upcoming policy launches and the announcement of his running mate as part of the New Force party’s election preparations.
