Lieutenant General Thomas Oppong-Peprah, Chief of Defence Staff, has refuted claims of releasing the dismissal letter of Richard Jakpa, a defendant in the ongoing ambulance trial, to Defense Minister Dominic Nitiwul.
This dismissal letter is crucial evidence in the trial, as it details the circumstances of Jakpa’s dismissal from the Ghana Armed Forces in 2007.
Oppong-Peprah clarified that he had not received any request for the letter, making it impossible for him to explain how the Minister obtained the document.
During the trial, Deputy Attorney-General Alfred Tuah-Yeboah introduced a letter purportedly from the Defense Minister’s office citing misconduct and breaches that led to Jakpa’s dismissal from the Ghana Armed Forces in 2007, a crucial part of the legal proceedings.
Jakpa’s legal team objected to the letter’s relevance. Still, Justice Afia Serwah Asare-Botwe admitted it as evidence, noting that the witness acknowledged it and that it was relevant to establishing credibility.
In today’s court session, Oppong-Peprah reiterated under questioning the gravity of the situation, stating that he had not released any documents to the Defense Minister.
