The paramount chief of Elmina, Nana Kojo Conduah have dared president Mahama in an interview on ATV that he will pay Ghc10,000 for each rubber he picks on the streets of Elmina.
The chief who was responding to questions on sanitation day in the country and how citizens have interest in keeping their environment for that matter the country clean said his township can boast of a massive turn up during sanitation exercises. According to him, his people have tasked themselves and taken interest in making sure that their environments are kept clean to avoid all sort of diseases and disasters.
‘I have lay down measure the seeks to restrict my people from littering around. I have empower some individuals and also given my people a share responsibility in making sure that people who liter around or mess up the environment are dealt with. There is a spot fine for you to pay instantly when you are caught and if you resist and you are brought to me, the charge increases.
If you refuse to pay by the given time, I send you to court and there you pay bigger. And this is really working for me. I dare the president to come to Elmina and if he is able to pick a single sachet rubber on my streets, I will pay Ghc10,000 for each rubber’ he said.
He stated that keeping our surroundings clean should be a share responsibility and every citizen must task himself to make sure we keep the country clean. According to him, this will prevent any future disaster like floods and outbreak of diseases. He urged Ghanaians to make time for national clean up exercises and also plead with the government to make available liter bins and other refuse collecting equipment especially on our streets so people don’t find themselves littering around anyhow.
