China and Zambia’s bilateral relations is a historical bond that should not be broken but to be strengthened further for the betterment of the generation to come, a senior Zambian official said on Saturday.

Japhen Mwakalombe, Copperbelt provincial minister, said historical relations should be upheld for the future generation’s understandings from where China and Zambia’s friendship emanated from.

“China and Zambia has a rich bilateral relations’ history, this is the reason why our country is witnessing a rise in new investments from China,” he said.

Speaking in an interview with Xinhua, Mwakalombe cited the establishment of the Zambia China Cooperation Zone (ZCCZ) in 2007 in the Copperbelt province, as one of the indications on how the Chinese cherished the bilateral relations with Zambia.

He said Zambia will continue to nature cooperation with China for many years to come.

“We look forward to seeing a consolidated mutual trust between the two nations for continued development especially in Zambia,” he said.

Further, Mwakalombe said the Chinese have come out in numbers to help fight COVID-19 in Zambia because of their huge investments dotted across Zambia.

He said Chinese enterprises should be hailed for their support towards the fight against COVID-19. Enditem
