Acceleration of agricultural production through China’s investment towards agricultural modernization would have a positive impact in realizing sustainable production, said Frans Uusiku, a Senior Research Analyst Simonis Storms Securities.

He made the remarks in light of China’s commitment of 60 billion U.S. dollars of funding support for Africa and plans to carry out 10 major China-Africa cooperation initiatives in the coming three years, including agricultural modernization.

“This would certainly be a positive development given that Namibia is characterized by the dry climatic condition which makes it unfavorable for agricultural production,” Uusiku said.

Namibia has been facing severe drought over the years. The Communal Sector report of the 2013/2014 Namibia Census of Agriculture recently released by the Namibia Statistic Agency revealed that 76 percent of the households have experienced food shortages. Enditem
