A delegation from Nanjing, capital of China’s Jiangsu Province, donated ten table tennis tables to Namibia Table Tennis Association on Tuesday with a hope of promoting the sport in the African country.
Long Xiang, Vice Secretary of Communist Party of China Nanjing Committee, while presenting the donation, said the donation is a commitment by the Chinese government towards the development of table tennis sport in Namibia.
“Table tennis is the national sport in China and is popular worldwide,” he said while expressing hope that the donation will help Namibia develop the sport at the national level.
The donation is also a fulfillment of a pledge of table tennis equipment to the Namibia Table Tennis Association made two years ago by former Chinese Ambassador to Namibia Xin Shunkang, said Abner Xoagub, President of Namibia National Olympics Committee.
“Apart from the donation, 12 Namibians were also trained in table tennis during a training session of 14 days held in Nanjing in 2016,” added Xoagub.
Li Nan, Charge d’Affaires ad interim of the Chinese Embassy, said the donation symbolizes the friendship between Namibia and China and demonstrates the goodwill of the Chinese people to the Namibian citizens.
“China further commits to avail coaches to train Namibians and help transform the table tennis sport to international standards and groom champions,” he said. Enditem
