Chinese nationals living in Togo on Tuesday donated food and non-food items to the tune of 8 million CFA Francs (about 13,000 U.S. dollars) to help vulnerable children celebrate year-end festivities in the West African country.
Chinese Ambassador to Togo Liu Yuxi handed the donation to the Togolese Minister of Social Action, Women Advancement and Literacy Promotion, Mrs. Tchabinandi Kolani-Yentchare, in the presence of the Chinese community.
On the occasion, Liu Yuxi welcomed the action of the Chinese community in favor of vulnerable children as part of the operation entitled “Christmas Solidarity” set up by the National Solidarity Agency of Togo.
“I must also salute the efficient and the hard working of the Chinese community,” he said, adding that some Chinese nationals have lived in Togo for over 20 years and are strongly committed to solidarity with their Togolese brothers.
Minister Kolani-Yentchare said the Chinese community has always been supportive, be it when school resumes, during disasters or on the occasion of year end festivities.
On her side, Mrs. Dong Xiaosong, deputy chairperson of the association of Chinese nationals in Togo, pointed out that Chinese nationals consider Togolese people as their brothers and sisters, and Togolese children as their own children. Enditem
