Chinese e-commerce platform launches Singles’ Day shopping fiesta in Kenya

Chinese e-commerce firm, Chinabuy, has introduced the Singles' Day shopping festival to the Kenyan market.

In recent years, e-commerce platforms in China would slash the products’ prices to lure customers on Nov. 11 — a day dubbed as Singles’ Day among young Chinese for the connection between singles and the number “1”.

Chinabuy launched its online shopping services early this month in Kenya.

The firm, through its locally operated site,, would offer discount on many items on Wednesday.

“The biggest allocation is at the beginning of the day, just after midnight between Nov. 10 and 11. It is important to note that the discounts are limited and will be offered based on the principle of first come first serve,” Chinabuy Group CEO Joe Zhang said in a statement issued in Nairobi.

“Kenyans are similar to the Chinese as they are very clever customers who know how to get the best out of a sale day,” he added.

Clients who register to the site will enjoy a list of limited coupon codes up to 50 percent off the regular price and will be able to use it on all items, according to Zhang. Enditem
