Chinese made buses are competing favorably in the Zambian transport industry, a local transporter said on Tuesday.

Most major public transport companies in Zambia were now buying buses from China. Noah Chileshe a Kitwe-based public transporter proprietor said most transporters have been importing Chinese buses for their transport businesses in Zambia.

“This is a sign that Chinese buses are competing with other public vehicles on the Zambian public transport market,” he said.

According to Chileshe, the Chinese bus manufacturing companies have a niche market in Zambia.

He said public transport companies in Zambia are also happy with the establishment of spare part centers by the major manufacturers from China.

While, Mulenga Nsama, a Chingola-based transporter said the public transport companies in Zambia also want to associate with China in doing business.

“We cannot lag behind when others in African countries and beyond are dealing with China in various trade,” he said.

And a traveler Ben Sakala said the Chinese buses have been accepted on the Zambian market because of the durability.

“The buses are of high standards and are made in such a way that they have suited the Zambian terrain especially in rural areas,” he said. Enditem
