The China Islamic Association on Wednesday said Chinese Muslims will not go to Saudi Arabia for Hajj this year due to COVID-19.

According to a circular released by the association, despite the achievements China has made in battling the epidemic, it is still spreading across the globe and yet to be effectively controlled, with the situation of epidemic control still grave, which led to the decision.

Saudi Arabia announced on Monday that only a limited number of pilgrims will be allowed to perform Hajj in the country this year over COVID-19 concerns.
