The Health Director of Sissala West District, Madam Cecilia Kakariba, has urged members of communities who feel unwell to seek medical attention at their various CHPs compounds before visiting referral hospitals for treatment.
“Visit the health post or CHPS [Community-based Health Planning and Services] closer to you first anytime you fall ill before coming to the main hospital as this will help them [health workers] know how to handle you,” she said.
“They have always reported very low figures of attendance to regional and national health authorities, which have a reflection in the quantity of drugs and other medical items allocated to them,” she added.
Madam Cecilia made the plea during a Social Audit engagement with duty-bearers in Pulima in the Sissala West District in a campaign championed by National Commission for Civic Education aimed at promoting transparency and fighting graft.
The community has a population hovering around 2,321, but annual report about patients that attend the health facility is pegged at 100 or less patients.
“Those reports always put them [health workers] in an awkward position, which makes them unable to seek the needed medical resources for the health centre,” she said.
