The Civil and Local Government Staff Association, Ghana (CLOGSAG) has announced plans for a nationwide strike due to ongoing delays in finalizing a salary structure for Civil Service and Local Government Service staff.
CLOGSAG had previously indicated in a letter dated June 21, 2024, that its members would strike in July, but subsequent discussions with the government led to a postponement of that action. At the time, an understanding was reached that the salary structure would be finalized by October 31, 2024, and implemented from January 1, 2025. However, CLOGSAG reports that despite several meetings, no firm proposal has been presented by the government.
In a statement issued on October 22, the association expressed concern that the October 31 deadline would not be met. “In light of the above, CLOGSAG would have no option but to declare a nationwide strike from Monday, November 4, 2024,” the statement read.
