Liberty Professionals head trainer J.E Sarpong has called for massive support for his young counterpart, CK Akunnor.
Coach Sarpong made the appeal to the entire Phobian family to exercise patience with the club’s new manager.
Akunnor replaced Serb Nebojsa Vucicevic close to a week ago as a result of the latter’s stuttering performance.
However the ‘Saviour’ failed in his first test, losing 0-1 in a derby to Liberty Professionals before home fans last Sunday.
That has indeed, heightened the tension brewing in the Phobian fraternity as a result of the current winless streak.
The loss notwithstanding, coach Sarpong believes that Akunnor has more up his sleeves to rescue the club from its current predicament should he receive the need
support but revealed that it will take some time to achieve that objective.
“Akunnor is a young coach, he just joined the club and didn’t have the opportunity to pick his own players, so the fans should be patient with him,” he said in an interview after guiding Liberty to defeat Hearts in Accra.
“ We should rather encourage him to take up the challenge, he needs time to settle,” he added.
Meanwhile, Akunnor has admitted the enormity of the task and said he is taking a game at a time and not targeting the league title.
He has also attributed the team’s current crisis to the lack of confidence on the part of the playing body.
Last Sunday’s loss relegated Hearts with 32 points from the second spot on the league table to the fourth.
They travel to face Aduana Stars in Dormaa this Sunday in the Glo Premier league.
