COGINTA-GHANA supports Peace Councils, Houses of Chiefs

COGINTA-GHANA, a non-governmental organisation, has offered logistical support to the Regional Peace Councils and Regional Houses of Chiefs in the northern sector.
The items, valued at GHc149, 099.00, included seven motorbikes, 10 laptops, 27 toners and nine multi-functional printers.
The donation formed part of the Preventing Electoral Violence and Providing Security to the Northern Border Regions of Ghana (NORPREVSEC) programme – output two, which was to enhance the logistical capacities of the Regional Peace Councils and the Regional Houses of Chiefs in the northern part of the country.
Reverend Father Clement Aapengnuo, Team Leader of COGINTA-GHANA, who handed over the items to representatives of the beneficiary institutions in Tamale, said the NORPREVSEC programme, funded by the European Development Fund, sought to strengthen peace-building and violence prevention mechanisms and structures, including early warning systems and violent extremism in the country.
He said the programme was also to promote good and inclusive governance to contribute directly to resilience and security in the country.
He noted that the NORPREVSEC programme, implemented by COGINTA-GHANA in partnership with a European Union-funded programme, was to contribute to the national framework for preventing and countering violent extremist ideology from mutating into extremism and terrorism.
Mr Ali Anankpieng, the Regional Executive Secretary of Upper East Regional Peace Council, expressed gratitude to the NORPREVSEC programme and its partners for their support in addressing the logistical challenges facing the two institutions in the northern sector.
He called on other organisations to also come to their aid to address some of the challenges facing the peace-building institutions to strengthen them to promote peace, security and development in the country.
