Security expert Col. Festus Aboagye (Rtd) has called for a comprehensive national dialogue on the contentious Agyapadie document, which has recently stirred debate over its legitimacy and intentions.

The Agyapadie document, which details a purported strategy to position Akyem individuals in influential economic roles, has generated significant controversy and speculation.

While the document exists, its origins, authorship, and true purpose still need to be clarified, leading to widespread debate.

In a recent op-ed, Col. Aboagye described the situation as contentious and mysterious. He emphasized that despite the document’s existence, we must investigate and fully understand its authenticity and intentions.

He cited Hopeson Adorye, a former NPP security and intelligence operative, who claimed to know the document’s author.

“The Agyapadie agenda should be scrutinized critically,” Col. Aboagye stated. “It is in the national interest to address potential issues of state capture, media control, economic domination, and other concerns associated with this document.”

He advocated for a broader national dialogue to address governance, accountability, and ethnic relations in Ghana. Col. Aboagye stressed the importance of transparency, accountability, and inclusive governance to ensure all citizens benefit equitably.

In response to the document, President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has dismissed it as a baseless attempt to create distrust and misinformation.

Addressing the Ghana Report Summit on August 1, 2024, President Akufo-Addo condemned the document, asserting that it falsely accuses his party of attempting to monopolize state assets.

President Akufo-Addo highlighted that misinformation and disinformation threaten Ghana’s democracy, especially as the country approaches the 2024 general elections.

He announced implementing a National Action Plan to combat false information, enhance legal and regulatory frameworks, and promote public awareness.

President Akufo-Addo stated, “The integrity of our elections and the health of our democracy must be protected from falsehoods.”

“We must remain vigilant, verify information, and ensure that our democratic processes are not undermined by misinformation.”

The Agyapadie document’s controversy underscores the need for vigilance and informed discourse as Ghana continues to navigate its political landscape and prepare for upcoming elections.
